Expo 2020 Dubai: Connecting minds, creating the future

On 30 September, the much-anticipated Expo 2020 Dubai finally opened its doors with a dazzling ceremony that was watched globally. Between now and March 31 next year, 20 million people from across the world are expected to visit the first World Expo ever to be held in the Middle East. They will include business leaders, politicians, policymakers, influencers and other decision makers from over 190 participating countries — and copies of the Khaleej Times containing BizNews’ reports will be widely distributed at the event.

Dubai has invested $8.2 billion on the stunning 438-hectare Expo site. Centred on the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,” each participating country has its own pavilion in one of the Expo’s three districts that represent the themes of opportunity, mobility and sustainability.

“All the world is coming together, for the first time since the pandemic began, to connect, to exchange and to learn on this extraordinary global stage,” said Dimitri S. Kerkentzes, secretary general of the Bureau International des Expositions, which oversees the elite World Expos that address the challenges facing us all. According to him, “Expo 2020 Dubai is a tremendous occasion to reconnect with the whole world, to truly engage with critical questions of universal importance, and to showcase innovative and cutting-edge solutions to our global problems. Expo 2020 Dubai will be a transformational event, creating new partnerships, and generating deep and meaningful connections to make our world better.”
